Jim Kelley Suhr Reissue

Thanks for sharing; I remember when these came out, found it great that John S helped Jim to make this run happen.
How do you find those to compare to 80's originals?
Always wondered how sound & feel could differ (or not).

thank you for listening. I haven't ever played one of the original single channels, so i can't comment on that specific case. My 80s FACS Line feels very similarly to this amp. I think the Suhr Reissue is one of the greats in the Jim Kelley canon.

Interestingly (to me), while playing with the amp and recording this clip, i was struck how much this sounds like my Dumble Ultraphonix when it's wound up a little bit.

I’ve played and own multiples of both. The reissues are more consistent from amp to amp. The originals have a quality to
Them that just tend to sing a little better. However, that’s just my take. Also the originals have a little more variation from amp to amp. Not only from Jim trying different things but of course a 45 year old amps is going to have some character to it as. Opposed to a reissue. Hopefully, it’s a good character. It also helps to have a connection to the man who built it if it has more or less character than it’s supposed too. All and all. My preference is for the originals as compared to the Suhr reissues.

However, I own both and love both and only say that because I know so much about the amps. I know how to select a good original. There’s a lot to know.

I had a killer OG Kelley with the attenuator, wicker and stock JBL. Sounded great and I schlepped it to a couple gigs, but man, is it heavy!

Later I bought the reissue and that was great too.

for sure. i have had two reissues, a couple of FACS, and i think six Line amps of various iterations currently. they're amazing and probably my overall favorite amps of all time.
