Got this one from Sweetwater on a sale. I have had a Hedgehog before and remember liking it, but had forgotten how it sounded.

It’s as good as I remember. Definitely more in the Dumble hot rodded Marshall vein to me, but a really killer sounding amp.

Anyway, here’s some clips:

My understanding is the HH is based on a Bluesmaster HRM. To me, more like a Marshall and a bit more aggressive sounding than the S100.
Correct. HH is indeed a Bluesmaster which is an HRM amp. A standard HRM amp and the Bluesmaster amps are capable of the most “modern” sounds and flexibility of all Dumbles amps. Take into account these were made in the early to late 90s. My understanding of influence for what Alexander wanted the amp to be was a more articulate and refined SLO. The HRMs that I’ve owned are indeed that. The Bluesmaster is even more unique where it is capable of HRM but it has a hint of that 70s Dumble character. My favorite era.

The Bruno’s are based on a very late 80s amp that was more “high gain” than pretty much any other Dumble to that time. I dig the anniversary as it smooth, articulate and has a ton of harmonic content. I will say though the HRM amps are more versatile and tunable to custom tailoring. I also especially like the HHs ability to store presets. Theres a ton of unique features to this amp. I would never if ever say someone made a Dumble design “better”. However, I will say John made the HH more modern with useful features. Rather than just adding bells and whistles and calling it better. Like many builders do.

Never really paid attention to Suhr’s amps. The HH sounds fantastic but the Corso caught my curiosity as a small portable amp with direct recording capabilities. Will have to look at it further.

I haven’t owned a ton of Suhr amps. I had a HH a few years ago and remembered liking it. I’m really glad I got another. I haven’t ever had the Corso.

I don’t really need the flexibility, but it’s fun to set it up. I’m not really an amp experimenter. I find a sound and leave it be. I appreciate when people do that, though. Helps learn me things. Ha ha
