Those clean tones in particular are really something. Even at a rehearsal, I could only use gain with an attenuator and it still felt like it had enough power to level entire buildings.

Yep agree; one of the very best clean tones I think I've ever had was playing my '67 Superbass: "bright channel", volume somewhere between 2-4, boosted in front by an old Korg SDD-3000. Late 60's Marshall 4x12.
There's just something about the raw huge power yet very musical feel of those big old simple amps that can't quite be found in anything else IMHO.
